AI Meets Ticket System

The future of IT support lies in intelligent automation. With our new Znuny MCP Server, we bring AI assistants and the proven Znuny ticket system together.

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard by Anthropic that enables AI assistants to communicate with external systems. Instead of just generating text, AI models can perform real actions - like creating tickets or checking status.

Features of the Znuny MCP Server

Ticket Management

  • Search tickets - With flexible filters (queue, state, priority, owner)
  • Create tickets - Create new tickets with articles
  • Update tickets - Change status, add articles
  • Get history - View complete change history

CMDB Integration

For Znuny installations with ITSM package:
  • Search and retrieve ConfigItems
  • Create new assets
  • Delete ConfigItems

Time Accounting

  • Query time records by ticket, user, or time period

How It Works

After setup, you can work with natural language:

"Show me all open tickets in the Support queue" "Create a ticket for customer Smith: The printer on the 3rd floor is not working" "What is the current status of ticket #2024010001?"

The AI understands the request and executes the corresponding action in Znuny.

Installation

  1. Import Web Service - Import the included YAML file in Znuny under Admin → Web Services
  1. Install MCP Server
pip install git+https://codeberg.org/wolkig-it/znuny_mcp.git
  1. Configure in Claude Desktop - Add credentials to the configuration file

The complete guide can be found in the repository.

Why Open Source?

As with our decision for Znuny itself, we chose open source for the MCP Server:

  • Transparency - The source code is visible, no hidden functionality
  • Customizable - Can be adapted to your own needs
  • Community - Feedback and contributions are welcome
  • Independence - No vendor lock-in

Outlook

The MCP Server is just the beginning. Possible extensions:

  • Automatic ticket categorization by AI
  • Intelligent response suggestions based on similar tickets
  • Proactive notifications for critical tickets

Conclusion

With the Znuny MCP Server, we bridge the gap between classic IT service management and modern AI assistants. The combination of the robust open-source ticket system Znuny and the flexibility of AI assistants opens up new possibilities for more efficient support.
